A new batch of nude celebrity photos have leaked on websites 4chan and Reddit.
The photos come about three weeks after a hacker posted hundreds of stolen intimate photos of celebrities in what has come to be known as "The Fappening." With the new leaks, the number of people affected has expanded, with pictures of famous personalities such as Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens, Kaley Cuoco and Avril Lavigne being posted on message boards and passed around the Internet.
In the first wave of stolen nude photos, more than 100 celebrities were targeted. This included Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Scarlett Johansson, Selena Gomez, Aubrey Plaza, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kirsten Dunst. Hackers gained access to private photos through Apple's iCloud software. The company has since denied that the service was breached, saying that celebrities were hit by "very targeted attacks."
Some personalities that had their photos disseminated almost a month ago were once again included in the new leaks. Lawrence, one of the most prominent victims of the earlier privacy breach, had photos in the new round of uploads from the hacker. This has given rise to rumors that the person who posted the images has more material that's being kept away somewhere, to be uploaded on a later date. It is unclear how much material the hacker has. However, a recent report claimed that the thief may have as much as two gigabytes worth of footage.
Over the weekend, compromising photos of celebrities once again surfaced on anonymous online bulletin board 4chan before being shared on Reddit and on social networks. Actress Gabrielle Union, who had her topless photos disseminated in the new round of leaks, released a statement with her husband, NBA star Dwayne Wade, in reaction to the stolen images.
"It has come to our attention that our private moments, that were shared and deleted solely between my husband and myself, have been leaked by some vultures," the statement, which was published through TMZ, read.
"I can't help but to be reminded that since the dawn of time women and children, specifically women of color, have been victimized, and the power over their own bodies taken from them. These atrocities against women and children continue worldwide... For anyone out there also being affected by these and other hacking and hate crimes - We send our love, support and prayers. We have done nothing wrong."
According to the report, Union's representatives will be contacting the FBI regarding the matter. It is still unclear whether the person responsible for the first privacy breach is also behind the new leaks.
