Tesla Model S new software update brings remote start and traffic-based navigation features

Remote start via smartphone, commuter advice and new power management options are some of the many updates that stuff a feature-packed update from Tesla Motors to the brim.

Telsa is delivering its latest update over the air, bringing the Model S' software up to version 6.0. The new features came in response to customer feedback, according to Telsa who says it plans to continue to actively support its vehicles with new and noteworthy updates.

"This software update represents Tesla's commitment to improving Model S for customers even long after it has left the assembly line," says Telsa. "With each update, Model S becomes more attuned and responsive to its owner's needs without requiring excessive user input. We will continuously fine-tune the software and work on new features in response to customer feedback."

The Model S' traffic navigation moves into its beta version, indicating electronic vehicle maker isn't quite settled on the features it'd like to roll out in the service just yet. The smarter navigation system will respond to traffic conditions dynamically, offering advice to drivers based on what other Model S drivers are experiencing on the roadways.

"Navigation isn't particularly useful when commuting between home and work because most of us usually know the way," says Telsa. "But if traffic has an effect on a typical route, it's helpful to know in advance. Now, Model S will monitor traffic before you even start your weekday commute and alert you with a pop-up message on the 17-inch touchscreen when a faster route is available."

Loosing a key fob, while still potentially frustrating, isn't the day halter it once was, now that Telas Motors has enabled remote start via smartphones for Model S vehicles. Using the Telsa Motors app, Models S owners can input their passwords and start up their vehicles remotely.

For Model S drivers weary of adjusting their suspensions to avoid scrapping the bellies of their vehicles on particularly uneven stretches of road, their EVs will now remember perilous pathways and adjust accordingly.

Rounding out the feature-packed update, Model S now include a new power-saving mode to minimize the squandering of charges overnight. A smartphone compatible calendar element has been added to the Model S' console and motorists can now give nicknames to their EVs.

"If you've already set locations for particular events, you don't have to worry about re-entering the details into your car's navigation system," says Telsa Motors. "Instead, you can just tap on the event in your calendar to bring up route directions."
