Most people use Twitter as their go-to site for trending news and conversation. The United Nations is no different.
The UN is using a new interactive social media dashboard launched by Global Pulse to track tweets and mentions about various environment-related topics. The dashboard shows the total number of tweets from April to September 2014 that were about climate change topics.
The monitoring tool searchers for keywords linked to energy, oceans and forestry. This data is then displayed in a world map. The map allows the UN to monitor what climate change topics are trending.
The tool analyzes millions of tweets in English, Spanish and French that feature the climate change keywords to track the amount of conversation certain content creates.
UN Global Pulse is able to evaluate in real-time what people around the world are talking about when it comes to these issues.
"The tool updates on a weekly basis to reflect key topics and top hashtags on Twitter, most-tweeted links and key influencers, sentiment, most popular tweets, and online search volumes using Google Trends," a blog post by United Nations Global Pulse writes.
The tool comes just in time for the UN Climate Summit next week in New York City, prompting politicians to discuss environmental issues and propose solutions.
