Dirk Gently found its leads a couple of months ago and has now added more to the cast, rounding up the characters that will be taking part in the BBC America adaptation.
Greenlit in January, Dirk Gently will be based on Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Oscar winner Dean Parisot has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of the series, working off a script by Max Landis.
Leading the adventure will be Samuel Barnett, who will be playing the eccentric detective Dirk Gently, followed by Todd, his reluctant assistant, to be played by Elijah Wood. Hannah Marks will be joining in on the fun as Todd's sister, Amanda, who was once a rebellious punk girl, but is now housebound, sidelined by a genetic condition.
Other members of the cast include:
• Jade Eshete as Farah Black, a billionaire's athletic, utterly anxious, but hyper competent security officer
• Mpho Koaho as Ken, a friendly, nerdy tech guy trapped unfortunately in increasingly troublesome and bloody situations
• Michael Eklund as Martin, the Rowdy 3's violent, but inexplicably sensitive ring leader
• Fiona Dourif as Bart Curlish, the fearless, homicidal, nearly invincible "Holistic Assassin"
• Miguel Sandoval as Scott Riggins, the troubled CIA head of a now-defunct secret division tasked with investigating paranormal cases
• Dustin Milligan as Hugo Friedkin, an ambitious but dangerous moron and Riggin's subordinate;
• Aaron Douglas as Gordon Rimmer, a loser with horrible secrets
• Richard Schiff as Zimmerfield and Neil Brown Jr. as Estevez, detectives assigned to missing persons cases who operate increasingly off the book to solve a particularly mystifying case.
Asked about the cast, Landis said he's very happy that they are working with great actors.
"It's really a shame we're killing so many of the characters," he added.
Showrunner Robert Cooper said Douglas Adams would have told them they ended up with the people they were meant to have.
According to BBC America, production for Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency has begun in Vancouver and will run through August. The series will premiere in Fall 2016.
