The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is not even official yet, but we already know it will be part of AT&T's buy one, get one free promo once it launches.
For the past few years, Samsung made a habit of launching flagship smartphones, followed by "Active" versions that offer extra ruggedness. The Active handsets have been available through AT&T, and this year's iteration will be no different.
Various leaks already hinted at an imminent Galaxy S7 Active release on AT&T and it's now nearly official. For some context, AT&T is offering attractive BOGO deals on more smartphones than ever, and the promotion is valid until June 30.
Scrolling down to the bottom of the page, the fine print for the promotion specifically mentions the Galaxy S7 Active, which confirms that the offer will be extended to the rugged handset once it launches. At the same time, this also confirms that the smartphone should arrive any day now, since it's eligible for this promotion that will expire at the end of next month.
"Eligible Devices: Includes new Samsung Galaxy S7, Note5, S6 32 GB (excludes 64 GB), S6 edge, S6 active 32 GB (excludes 64 GB), S7 edge & S7 active only (excludes Certified-Like New/Pre-owned) [purchase] on installment [agreement]," states the fine print.
While Samsung is yet to formally introduce its new Galaxy S7 Active, recent leaks, benchmarks and reports already painted a picture of what to expect from the handset. This iteration will come as the successor to the AT&T Galaxy S6 Active, pictured above.
Based on information that surfaced so far, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active should feature a 5.5-inch QHD display (2,560 x 1,440 pixels), a Snapdragon 820 processor, a hefty 4 GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), and a 5-megapixel front shooter.
The handset should pack 32 GB of internal storage space, expandable via microSD, and will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. In terms of ruggedness, the Galaxy S7 Active will be both waterproof and dust-resistant, likely with military-grade certification. The handset could also be headed to Sprint as the Galaxy S7 Sport, but it remains unconfirmed at this point.
As always, take all leaks with a grain of salt until an official unveiling. We'll keep you up to date as soon as Samsung and AT&T make the announcement, so stay tuned.
