That's right! Samsung has not forgotten about its first-ever smartphone that boasts a curved screen on the side.
The Galaxy Note Edge — which was released in 2014 alongside the Galaxy Note 4 — is now getting updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow according to Italy-based HDBlog.
The publication cites screenshots it received as confirmation of the Android Marshmallow update being rolled out in the region.
Earlier in April, we reported that U.S. carrier Sprint updated its variant of the Galaxy Note Edge smartphone to Marshmallow.
The latest over-the-air (OTA) update is rolling out for the factory unlocked model of the Galaxy Note Edge in Europe and bumps up the handset from Android Lollipop to the latest OS. The release has the firmware number N915FYXXU1DPE1, and the update weighs nearly 1.5GB.
According to reports, the software update for the Galaxy Note Edge started rolling out from May 21. However, it is not clear which countries in Europe are benefitting from the latest software update for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
Not only does Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow bring several Android enhancements and new features in its folds, but Samsung has also apparently upgraded the TouchWiz UI, which runs on top. The UI has been updated with novel features that are specific to the Galaxy Note Edge. The power saving and vibration modes see an improvement.
Moreover, the update also brings the improvements found in the Security Maintenance Release patch for May.
The regular Android Marshmallow goodies such as Google Now on Tap, improved app permissions and Doze mode all benefit the Galaxy Note Edge.
The update is rolling out in phases, and it could be a while before it reaches your factory unlocked model of the Galaxy Note Edge. To manually check if the update to Android Marshmallow is already available on your Galaxy Note Edge, navigate to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates. If the update is available, hit the Update Now button to get Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on your device.
Before updating, make sure you have backed up important data and have at least 50 percent charge on your handset.
