San Jose, California has topped Glassdoor's list of the best U.S. cities for jobs in 2016, while its fellow Bay Area metropolis, San Francisco, comes in at a close second.
According to the employment website, San Jose currently has 61,038 openings for job seekers, with HR manager, data scientist and solutions architect being some of the in-demand jobs in the city.
As far as salaries go, San Jose boasts a median base of $112,000, while the value of homes is set at a $965,500 median.
Employees in the city must really love working at the "Capital of Silicon Valley," since San Jose is able to nab a 3.5 job satisfaction rating based on Glassdoor's ranking.
Meanwhile, San Francisco has almost double the number of job openings as San Jose with 121,597. The median base salary in the city is pegged at $88,000, while the median home value is at $806,600.
If your expertise fits that of a junior graphic designer, a data scientist, or an engagement manager, you have a good chance of landing a job in good ol' San Fran. It also helps that the city has a 3.5 job satisfaction rating as well.
"This demonstrates why so many people are looking to move to the San Francisco Bay Area — job satisfaction, work-life balance and hiring opportunity are unparalleled compared to anywhere else in the country," Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist at Glassdoor, said.
Chamberlain, however, pointed out that job seekers also need to understand that getting a job in a big city doesn't always mean it is better. Many mid-sized U.S. cities are also known to offer some of the best career opportunities along with salaries that provide employees a better chance to stretch their earnings further.
Other cities that cracked Glassdoor's list this year include Seattle, Washington, which has 103,124 job openings and a job satisfaction rating of 3.4; Boston, Massachusetts, which has 121,498 openings and a satisfaction rating of 3.4; and Washington, D.C., which has 163,520 openings and a satisfaction rating of 3.4.
To create its annual rankings, Glassdoor makes use of data collected from the latest job listings and combines them with those of user-generated content on 540,000 companies in the United States. These include reviews and ratings of 12 million workplaces, interview reviews, salary reports and benefits reviews.
