Although a leak a few months ago confirmed the existence of remastered editions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, Warner Bros. Interactive and Rocksteady Studios (finally) officially announced that the Batman: Return to Arkham collection will arrive on consoles on July 29.
Most fans of Rocksteady's Batman video game series would argue that these are the two best titles of the franchise, and now, they can enjoy both with even better graphics on today's consoles.
The arrival of the collection isn't a huge surprise to fans paying attention: persistent rumors and leaks about the remasters only left fans wondering not if the collection would happen, but when. Thanks to an official announcement on Twitter, though, we finally have an answer, along with a new trailer.
The first title, Arkham Asylum, introduced many of the cool concepts recently seen in the latest title, Batman: Arkham Knight. Fans quickly fell in love with the Batman story in Asylum, as well as gameplay features such as detective vision, which allows Batman to find clues that eventually leads him to the bad guy. The game also did a great job of playing mind tricks on the player, thanks to one of the main villains, Scarecrow.
The first game also introduced all of Batman's awesome tools, including his grapple, batarang, line launcher and explosive gel. Batman got to use all those cool things while soaring over the tops of the tall buildings of Gotham City.
The follow-up, Arkham City, continued Batman's adventures in Gotham, and added a few new tools to Batman's arsenal, such as smoke bombs, freeze blast grenades and the Disruptor. Both games set the tone for last year's Batman: Arkham Knight, which was a hit with console gamers, although PC gamers had to deal with multiple issues.
