Viewers may be getting closer to the finales of their favorite Fox shows like Empire and Gotham this month as the spring lineup comes to end, but summer shows are about to make their debuts, including the season two premieres of Wayward Pines and Home Free.
Even still, the network is making sure that its viewers are prepared for all the quality programming coming this fall and next spring by announcing its 2016-2017 lineup featuring new and returning series on Monday during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre.
Fox is really beefing up its programming for the 2016-2017 season, with nearly 90 percent being original content. These include three new comedies, six new dramas, two new reality shows and two new event series — not to mention returning favorites like Gotham, Scream Queens, The Simpsons and more.
"Next season on FOX, we'll have more original programming across our schedule than ever before," Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group said in a statement. "We'll use our strong established hits in the fall and SUPER BOWL LI in winter to launch a diverse slate of shows that are unmistakably FOX. We're proud of our new series, directed and created by some of the most celebrated talent in the entertainment industry. And, we are pleased to be returning to our schedule many of our most beloved shows, including broadcast's No. 1 series, Empire."
Perfect to get hooked on before Halloween, one of the new series premiering on Fox is the highly anticipated TV adaptation of The Exorcist. The psychological thriller directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and starring Alfonso Herrera (Sense8), Ben Daniels (House of Cards) and Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise), will follow two priests who take on a demonic possession case to help a family. The Exorcist will air at 9 p.m. ET Fridays.
Another movie adaptation series will debut this fall: Lethal Weapon. Airing at 8 p.m. ET Wednesdays before Empire, the series based on the movie franchise will star Clayne Crawford (Rectify) as Martin Riggs and Damon Wayans, Sr. (My Wife and Kids) as Roger Murtaugh who are partners with different law enforcement styles that must work together.
Other new series include the live-action, animated family comedy Son of Zorn, starring the voice of Jason Sudeikis (We're the Millers), about an island warrior who comes back to California to win back his wife and son.
The reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will also premiere in October 2016 starring Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
Fox will debut even more new series during its spring lineup, including the event series Prison Break and Shots Fired; the comedy series The Mick and Making History; the dramas 24: Legacy (which will premiere after Super Bowl LI), Star, Pitch and APB, and the reality series Kicking & Screaming and My Kitchen Rules.
The next generation of the hit series 24, 24: Legacy starring Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Miranda Otto (Homeland) and Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy), with executive producer Kiefer Sutherland will air at 8 p.m. Mondays as part of Fox's mid-season schedule.
Here are the days and times of all the new and returning TV series airing on Fox in 2016-2017.
