Anticipation for the new "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" film has been growing steadily for months now. While that may sound like a no-brainer, it wasn't that long ago that fans were petitioning for Ben Affleck, who will star as Batman, to be removed from the film entirely. Once the fans began to settle down, excitement for the movie has started to brew, thanks in large part to director Zack Snyder slyly tweeting out pictures of the new Batmobile, though until now, the pictures have been heavily cropped.
With the film shooting in a city as large as Detroit, it was really only a matter of time before someone with a hidden camera captured an image of the set. Usually, these are just a few snippets or blurry shots, such as the recent "Star Wars: Episode VII" leak, but one Detroit resident was able to snap an entire set of high-res pictures, all featuring the new, fully-operational Batmobile.
It's a rather detailed collection, one that gives a good indication as to how large this new Batmobile really is. Alongside a normal car, the new Batmobile is still big, but when shot next to a larger vehicle like a truck, it's easy to see that this new vehicle is much smaller than the previous incarnation of Batman's signature ride.
Whereas the Christopher Nolan "Dark Knight" films all featured the Tumbler Batmobile (which was modeled like a tank), this new ride seems to hearken back to the Tim Burton movies from the '80s and '90s. It's sleeker and smaller, but doesn't give up the angular look that the Nolan films introduced. Strangely enough, the new Batmobile seems to use gull-wing doors, not unlike the deLorean from "Back to the Future." Either way, it definitely seems like a safe middle ground between old and new, rather than the radical change in direction brought on by the Tumbler-mobile.
(Here's a brief history of the Batmobile on the big screen.)
This isn't the first time we've seen the new Batmobile, as a post to Twitter leaked earlier this month, and it's also been shown (albeit cropped) in some promotional photos. Even so, these are easily the most detailed set of photos of Batman's ride yet. The full album, which includes some 20+ photos, can be seen at Autoblog.com.
"Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled to debut on March 25, 2016.
