'Star Wars Battlefront' Outer Rim Expansion Is Free This Weekend Only

Fans of Star Wars Battlefront who haven't yet bought the game's season pass (or refuse to) will get the chance to check out what they're missing for a limited time this weekend. The game's first expansion, Outer Rim, will be free for all players Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15.

All four of the expansion's new maps - Jabba's palace, Pipelines on Sullust, Palace Garage on Tatooine and the SoroSuub Refinery - will be available for all players. Players can also check out Star Wars Battlefront's newest mode, Extraction, while also trying out the game's two latest heroes, the rebel fighter Nien Nunb and the infamous bounty hunter Greedo.

What won't be availble during the free weekend are the new weapons and star cards added in the Outer Rim expansion. Those will still remain exclusive to those who own the Star Wars Battlefront season pass or to those who have purchased the Outer Rim expansion separately.

The Outer Rim expansion was released roughly a month ago for the standalone price of $15. Star Wars Battlefront's next expansion, Bespin, will be coming this summer and looks to add bounty hunter Dengar and the charming smuggler Lando Calrissian to the game's hero roster, as well as new maps inspired by the Cloud City location seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

In other Star Wars Battlefront news, EA recently announced that a sequel to the title will be coming next year and will include content from the new Star Wars films. Given how the first game in the new series sold more than 14 million copies across all platforms, the desire for EA to push out another entry is hardly surprising. In fact, EA will be releasing a new Star Wars game almost every year for the next three to four years, including an action game from Dead Space developer Visceral Games and a new Star Wars title from Respawn Entertainment, the developer of Titanfall.
