Grab, The Airport Food-Ordering App, Makes Air Travel A Little Less Stressful

When you're trying to catch a plane, it can be difficult to grab a bite to eat along the way.

To simplify the process, the Grab app has been developed for iOS and Android. With the app, users can preorder food at airport restaurants, and now, it's officially launched in Detroit.

As of May 11, Grab is now available at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. With the free app, travelers can preorder food for their trip at restaurants like Hockeytown Cafe and the Coffee Beanery.

"Grab aims to eliminate some of the stressors associated with air travel today," said Mark Bergsrud, CEO of Grab. "Passengers no longer have to wait in lines for food, or run blindly through unfamiliar terminals for fear of missing a flight."

The goal of Grab is to put information at the fingertips of its users before they fly out or land. Travelers can see menus and wait times via Grab, as well as preorder and pre-pay for food at restaurants.

Kevin Kelly, president of the travel hospitality business at Delaware North, the company that manages the participating restaurants at Detroit Metro Airport, claims that it's the perfect time to launch Grab in Detroit. With the summer traveling season just around the corner, Kelly told the Detroit Business Journal that Grab will make for more stress-free, delicious travel.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Le Petit Bistro, Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, TGI Friday's and Thee Irish/Guinness Pub are also participating in Grab at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Upon opening Grab, users view a list of participating airports. However, there is also the option to view airports across the country that do not participate in Grab just yet. Upon selecting one of these locations, users can scroll through a directory of stores and restaurants at the airport, making Grab helpful beyond its preordering features.

To date, there are 74 restaurants working with Grab at airports in cities including Atlanta, Austin, Denver and New Orleans. Bergsrud claims that 1,000 airport restaurants and retailers have signed up to join the platform in the near future.

This month, Grab also launched at the Richmond International Airport. Travelers moving through this airport will be able to order ahead of time at Applebee's, Caribou Coffee, Club Level Grille and the Sam Adams Brew Pub.
