Apple spaceship campus receives final clearance for landing

Steve Jobs's dream project is all set to be a reality. The new spaceship-like campus that is being built in Cupertino, California, has received the final stamp of approval from the City Council.

"We're eager to see it happen. Go for it," said Cupertino Mayor Orrin Mahoney. The council had unanimously voted in favor of the campus.

With this approval, Apple is eligible to enter into an official Development Agreement with the city of Cupertino. The company has received all the necessary building permits. Earlier, it received the permits to begin demolition of the HP campus, which exists on the site.

Apple's Campus 2 will spread over 2.8 million square feet and an underground parking lot can hold 2,400 vehicles. The campus is also set to include a 100,000 square feet fitness center and 120,000 square feet auditorium.

About 600,000 square feet of area will be dedicated additionally to offices and R&D buildings.

The proposed campus was all set to open in 2015 but Apple encountered delays, and the campus is now expected to open sometime in mid-2016.
