We knew Mass Effect: Andromeda wouldn't be coming in 2016, but now, fans at least know when to expect Bioware's latest sci-fi RPG: early 2017.
The news comes straight from developer Bioware, in a blog post titled "An Update on Mass Effect: Andromeda." In the post, Aaryn Flynn, general manager of Bioware, shines a few more details on what fans will experience when the game does eventually arrive.
Flynn broke down Andromeda's most exciting new features into three categories: more freedom, new uncharted worlds and what Flynn describes as "the next great Mass Effect experience."
He says players can expect to meet new allies, confront new enemies and explore fascinating new worlds in the Andromeda galaxy, all with more freedom than ever before. The game seeks to allow players to more freedom in "where you'll go, how you'll get there and how you'll play."
Flynn goes on to say the team is pushing the technology of DICE's Frostbite engine to deliver "visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history."
That also means that the game won't be ready for almost another year.
"As we've been playing the game at the studio recently, it's showing us that we're taking the game in the right direction," Flynn writes. "But we also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be — that's our commitment from all of us to all of you."
The bright side is that gamers will get to learn (and hopefully see) more of the game at EA's E3 event on June 12. The blog post confirms that Mass Effect: Andromeda will be there, but exactly how much of a presence the game will have at the show remains a mystery.
So far, not much is known about Mass Effect: Andromeda outside of a few basic details like the ones outlined above. Last year, at EA's E3 press conference, fans only saw a brief teaser trailer and concept art from the upcoming game. Hopefully, this year will be better in that regard. We'll keep you updated with more as we hear it.
