Verizon launched the new promotion with the aim of making those who are looking into an iPhone 6 upgrade into actual subscribers. This means that even if the customer is not due for an upgrade just yet, he can be eligible even with the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus upgrade.
The new iPhone 6 which comes in 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch versions are reportedly selling like hot cakes, with pre-orders said to have reached more than 4 million within the first 24 hours.
The new promo by Verizon is not entirely limited to iPhone 6 upgrades. Other devices included in the upgrade would be the LG G3, HTC One M8 and the Galaxy S5. Obviously, however, the carrier's early upgrade promotion is geared towards the iPhone 6 release.
Customers who are interested to get their iPhone 6 from Verizon can check if they're eligible for upgrade by visiting Verizonwireless.com and checking the site's pre-order page. They can also download the free My Verizon app at itunes.com for iOS users and at the Google Play Store for Android users.
Customers who want to take advantage of the carrier's early upgrade promo will be required to sign up to a new two-year contract. The contract includes a choice of any smartphone that's offered by the carrier and an upgrade fee of $30 in order to activate the new smartphone subscription.
The promotion is Verizon's tactic to lock a customer into an upgrade to one of the latest iPhone 6 devices. The carrier is clearly aware that some competitors encourage consumers to switch to their offer by assuring them that they would take care of their device's early termination fees.
So far, there are three models of the iPhone 6 which are available to users towards the end of the week. These would include the Gold 64GB, Gold 128GB and Silver 128GB. The rest of the iPhone 6 models will have delivery dates extended between mid to late October. The iPhone 6 Plus models are back-ordered and will have delivery dates extended to early November.
Other carriers have started their own versions of upgrade offers in order to meet huge demands that usually come when a new phone launches. AT&T would usually offer early upgrades to their subscribers within only a month of being eligible to get an upgrade. At this point, Verizon is the only carrier that is confirmed to offer early upgrades. Other carriers appeared to be more eager to encourage customers to avail of their new upgrade promos such as T-Mobile's JUMP and AT&T Next.
