Alden Ehrenreich has been chosen to star as the young Han Solo in the character's standalone film, after an exhaustive search that had 2,500 young men vying to be one of the most famous bounty hunters in movie history.
The actor is now reportedly in the last legs of negotiations to seal the deal and be the new face of Han Solo, a character that had been synonymous with Harrison Ford since the first Star Wars film came out.
The shortlist for who will be playing Han Solo got shorter and shorter until just three names were in the running: Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor and Taron Egerton. This was back in April.
There aren't many details revealed as to what the Han Solo film will be touching on but Lawrence Kasdan, who is on-board the project as producer and scriptwriter and was also scriptwriter for The Force Awakens, Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back, said it may be set some 10 years prior to the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, giving us a look at what molded the bounty hunter to be the man that he was.
An of course, where Han Solo is, Chewie is sure to follow.
Before the standalone film comes out, however, on May 25, 2018, it is rumored that the young Han Solo will be appearing in a cameo for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The film will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, the guys behind the 21 Jump Street films and The Lego Movie. Kasdan's son will also be part of the movie as scriptwriter.
Ehrenreich, who was last seen in Hail Caesar!, got his big break in the Francis Ford Coppola film Tetro. The movie wasn't exactly a box office darling back in 2009 but the actor's performance did manage to make heads turn. He then went on to appear in a cameo in Sofia Coppola's Somewhere before landing the lead role in 2013's Beautiful Creatures and starring in Stoker and Blue Jasmine. Ehrenreich just wrapped up filming The Yellow Birds, an Iraq war drama with Jennifer Aniston and Tye Sheridan and will next star in a yet-to-be-titled drama directed and written by Warren Beatty.
