Apple Taps Google X Co-Founder And Former Nest Chief Yoky Matsuoka For Health Projects

Apple takes a step forward in the health industry, hiring Co-Founder of Google X and former Vice President of Nest Yoky Matsuoka to push efforts.

The 2007 winner of the MacArthur Genius Award is reportedly going to work for Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, who supervises the Apple Watch and oversees the iPhone maker's health initiatives, particularly HealthKit, ResearchKit and CareKit.

The news comes from Fortune, and in line with the report, Matsuoka has updated her LinkedIn profile, even though she didn't specify her exact role in the Cupertino brand there.

In 2015, the robotics expert was poised to join Twitter as the new vice president, but it did not pan out because of a life-threatening illness. Fortunately, things took a turn for the better, as she said that her treatment was effective, noting that she intended to continue working in the field of technology.

"I am spending time with my family and working on some personal projects. But I can't imagine leaving the world of technology and what has been a passion for me. I want to work again, but also want to take time to construct this new life I have been so blessed to be given," she said.

On an interesting note, Matsuoka joined Google back in 2009 to establish the X lab, and after a year, she moved to Nest, which was co-founded by Matt Rogers, one of her students when she was a robotics professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

She spearheaded the Nest thermostat, but when Google acquired the company back in 2014, she said that she would leave the firm. A year after that, she announced her plans to join Twitter, but as mentioned earlier, that didn't happen because of her illness.

With Matsuoka on board, it looks like Apple is set to release a variety of health products in the foreseeable future.
