Not long ago, documents were leaked that showcased Microsoft's alleged plan to drop Nokia and the Windows Phone brand from its next generation line of smartphones. The plan is to brand these devices simply as 'Windows' and from this new leaked image, it appears the rumors are real.
A company which goes by the name 'My Go' is planning to release its first Windows Phone device later this year. The image of the slick looking handset reminds us of some of the slimmest Android devices available today. Furthermore, we came to the realization that it is lacking the traditional Windows Phone face buttons, which could mean these buttons might actually show up on the display instead.
However, the most intriguing thing about this handset, which is called the GoFone, is the logo at the back. Instead of the traditional Nokia and Windows Phone logo, the device is sporting the tag 'Windows' along with the modern Windows logo. This is so far the most striking proof that Microsoft is moving away from the Windows Phone and Nokia branding for good.
Calling the mobile operating system Windows, could only mean one thing. The company is likely on the verge of merging Windows RT with the Windows Phone operating system. Such a move could allow Microsoft to have a single operating system for tablets and smartphones, and it would likely be possible for tablet and smartphone apps to work seamlessly across devices.
This has been a plan of Microsoft for quite some time, but the company has failed to bring it to fruition. However, with increased competition from Google and Apple, Microsoft is now in a tight spot, and the company has no choice but to quickly move forward with its plan.
As we've mentioned before, the handset is slick where design is concerned, and it is quite capable under the hood. It comes with a sexy looking 4.7-inch display at 1280 x 720 resolution, and it only ways around 130g. We're not certain of the speed of the chipset, but since this is a budget device, chances are it's a dual core, and the RAM should be around 1GB.
When it comes down to the camera, the device is packing an 8-megapixel shooter at the back, and 2-megapixel selfie camera at the front. With the newly added Selfie app now available in the Windows Phone store, Microsoft is well on its way of pushing its future devices to the selfie loving crowd.
