It's no mystery that Super Mario Bros., or any game featuring the ever-popular plumbing pair Mario and Luigi, has yet to hit the mobile gaming scene, but this could be the next best thing for now: Steps with Mario for the Pebble smartwatch.
Set to offer a blast from the past, the step-counting app takes the user to the first world of the game where Toad's series of lies begins. A word to the wise, it's in Mushroom Kingdom.
Going over how Steps with Mario works, it tracks the wearer's progress with Pebble Health and displays the distance traveled via a slew of screenshots of Super Mario Bros. In other words, users can potentially have a ton of fun with it and see just how they'll fare in Mario's or Luigi's shoes in saving the princess from the clutches of Bowser.
Meanwhile, Mental Floss editor-at-large Nick Greene calculated the estimated 3.4-mile distance that Mario has to travel to reach the princess, contributing the figure to the mind behind the neat Pebble app.
When that 3.4-mile mark has been reached, a screenshot of the ending of Super Mario Bros. will turn up, and the app won't reset back to the first level until the following day when it will reset the adventure.
Of course, it should be noted that the developer behind this nifty app is Steve Cicco, and the provider of the retro screenshots is Ian Albert.
As for compatibility, it works with both Android and iOS devices.
Steps with Mario is already available over at the Pebble website. It's probably safe to assume that this is a must-have for Super Mario Bros. fans who are also health buffs with the suitable wearable tech.
