What are the top up-and-coming cities? Yelp reviews reveal the list

We all have a list of cities we want to visit for their charm, culture, sports, music, food and nightlife. If wanderlust has you wondering which are the top up-and-coming cities to explore, then Yelp is at your service.

The review company analyzed 61 million reviews, focusing on reviews for new, highly rated businesses the cities had over the last six months. Once the list of cities was compiled, the "small but growing team" of Yelp data scientists removed the cities with the biggest population size so that only up-and-coming cities were spotted, and crosschecked the list with other social community sites like Meetup.com and Chowhound.com

Yelp partnered with Women's Health magazine for a spread that included the best up-and-coming cities for fitness, foodies, nightlife and arts and culture. Reports featured local business owners, experts and everyday people to map the trendiest places to live in or visit.

Some must-see cities that earned the top spots might shock you. Ann Arbor, Mich. topped the list of cities for sports, followed by Portland, Ore., Charlotte, N.C., Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jersey City, N.J.

Providence, R.I. stole the spotlight for the city with the best nightlife. Cleveland, Ohio, Pittsburgh, PA, Seattle, Wash., and Memphis, Tenn. rounded out the top five.

Craving more entertainment? Then check out Austin, Texas, San Diego, Calif., Raleigh, N.C., Orlando, Fla., or Denver, Colo. for arts and culture.

When it's time to grab some grub after all the exploration, visit Des Moines, Iowa, Birmingham, Ala, Albuquerque, N.M., Oklahoma, Okla., and Rochester, N.Y. for the food.

Yelp has previously used its data to look for when words like "tourist" or "cronut" were used in certain cities for reports on YelpTrends and WordMap.

If you are looking to change cities or just discover a new vacation spot, these up-and-coming places might be what you are searching for.
