Play video games with Will Ferrell and help fight cancer

Move over Ice bucket challenge, the Super Mega Blast Game Challenge is now in town. The campaign involves Will Ferrell, and was launched by two charities supported by Twitch, Amazon and Xbox. Should it successfully hit its target of $375,000, Ferrell will play video games on Twitch against a lucky game player. The live event will be held at the company's San Francisco headquarters.

Joining the campaign is easy. Everyone who donates $10 or higher automatically gets one entry into the campaign lottery that will pick the lucky gamer to play against Ferrell on Twitch. The special live event, which is scheduled to occur on the 26th of October, will last for two hours.

The winner will get air transportation tickets and will be provided with room accommodations as he attends the event. He shall receive a "VIP" visit pass to Twitch's office. The $10 contribution will also reward him with $5 credit in Amazon which he can use for purchasing digital games.

A contribution of $25 enables one to get more perks from the campaign. These would include a Twitch Turbo pass that's good for 1 month, two entries into the campaign lottery, and a credit of $5 from Amazon for digital game products.

When a person's support level to the campaign is at $1500, Will Ferrell will make him a half a minute video message.

Other cool perks include personally addressed cowbells (each at $500), autographed Xbox 360 controllers, a SuperMegaBlast teeshirt or sweatshirt, and a "Will Ferrell's Gamer Sunscreen" that's worth $50.

DonateGames and Cancer for College are the charities that are supported by the campaign. The former is a nonprofit organization which collects pre-owned games and sends them to sick children as gifts. It was established by Jim Carol. Carol's son Taylor is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed to have terminal cancer when he was only 11.

The latter is also a nonprofit organization that awards college scholarships to cancer amputees and survivors. It was founded by Craig Pollard who is a double amputee and a two-time survivor of cancer.

The event will only happen if the Indiegogo campaign successfully reaches the targeted $375,000 amount. If it does, it would mean that Cancer for College will be able to provide 2 full years of scholarships. At least 150 new college scholarships would be awarded to cancer survivors.

"I know the popular perception of gamers is that we're all extremely motivated, highly philanthropic, and impossibly good looking. Let's not alter people's perceptions of us," says Ferrell in the campaign's promotional video.
