Ford Mustang 2015 edition set for Dec. 5 unveil

Ford Motor Co. will unveil its sixth-generation Mustang 2015 edition on December 5.

The American car maker said the Mustang 2015 will be the first overhaul since 2005 and comes as the Mustang celebrates its 50 years in productions.

The Ford Mustang has been one of the most popular cars the company has ever produced. The Mustang has appeared in thousands of films, television shows, music videos and video games. The car also has over 600 owner clubs around the world.

"Mustang has come to be much more than just a car for its legions of fans spanning the globe from New Zealand to Iceland and Shanghai to Berlin," said Jim Farley, executive vice president of Ford global marketing, sales and service and Lincoln. "When you experience Mustang, it ignites a sense of optimism and independence that inspires us all."

"Today, we kick off the countdown to the all-new Ford Mustang," added Farley. "With a new design and greater refinement, world-class power and performance plus innovative new technologies, Mustang is ready for the next 50 years."

In April 1964, Ford unveiled the original Mustang in New York and 11 European cities. Similarly, the Mustang 2015 will be revealed as a global car and launch events will take place in Dearborn, (Michigan), New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Shanghai and Sydney.

Ford unveiled the original Mustang in 1964 and the company sold over half a million cars just within one year. However, its last redesign in 2005 brought a retro feel to the car, and attracted very less customers.

In the 15 days leading up to the unveiling of the car, the car maker has teamed up with Facebook and Instagram to highlight the car, where fans can share photographic stories every day. Select users can also share 15-second videos of the car using the hashtag #MustangInspires. Ford executives say that by using social media such as Facebook and Instagram, the company can get its brand message across to many customers.
