John Oliver explains why net neutrality is important (Video)

It all comes down to purchasing coyote urine online, at least for some people.

On his show "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," the comedian turned comedic news anchor John Oliver went over the massive issue that is net neutrality.

If you are unsure why many of the Internet's biggest sites such as WordPress, Tumblr, Google and Reddit are "slowing down" today, it is to emulate the result of what would happen if net neutrality is overturned and cable companies are allowed to sell high speed to high-paying companies, leaving a slower Internet for all the other sites who do not pay the blackmail fee.

Oliver discusses Comcast's negotiations with Netflix earlier this year, the proposed merger between Time Warner Cable and Comcast, and the notion of a fast lane and a slow lane existing on the Internet. (Few come away unscathed.)

The comedian does end the segment on a high note: imploring all of the Internet's trolls and haters to use their power for the forces of good by postings comments on the FCC site in support of net neutrality.
