Amazon is currently offering the Black variant of Moto 360 Sport for $227.90, a 24 percent discount from the standard $300 price tag still listed on Motorola's website. However, the White and Flame variants of the Moto 360 Sport are still priced at $299.99 on Amazon.
The Moto 360 Sport is an Android smartwatch that was designed specifically to help users track their physical activities. Features include integrated GPS for tracking run distance and route, an optical heart rate monitor to track physical exertion and calories burned and other sensors including a gyroscope, accelerometer, altimeter and a vibration/haptics engine.
The smartwatch is powered by Android Wear and supports both Moto My Fitness apps and third-party smartwatch apps found on Google Play. The Moto 360 Sport smartwatch syncs with both Android devices running 4.3 or higher, as well as iPhone devices running iOS 8.2 or higher. The experience, however, may vary between the two platforms as some features require Android devices.
The Moto 360 Sport is powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (APQ 8026) and includes an Adreno 305 GPU clocked at 450 MHz. The Moto 360 Sport does not include a built-in speaker, but it does support Bluetooth 4.0.
It has a 300 mAh battery, which Motorola claims to be good for up to a full day's use with ambient sensing, dimming enabled. A wireless charging base station is also included with the purchase. Amazon Prime customers are also being offered free, same-day delivery in select U.S. markets.
Google confirmed that the Motorola Moto 360 Sport will be included with the latest version of the smartwatch operating system, version 1.4. This version brings new functionality to smartwatches, including more robust gesture tracking, speaker phone support, and voice-powered texting and chatting in Google Hangouts, Viber, WeChat and WhatsApp.
Google and Microsoft also recently announced the integration of Outlook Mobile in smartwatches running version 1.4 of Android Wear.
Google's operating system has captured approximately 15 percent of the total smartwatch market. A recent report published by ABI Research forecasts an increase in the demand for medical, wellness, sports and activity wearable devices as more people look for technology that assists in tracking health and wellness metrics.
