September 9 is just one sleep away, and that's the date Destiny will hit store shelves, the game that is being dubbed as a gamer changer. However, is Destiny really the game changer we've been waiting for, or is just a fun game that holds several similarities to other video games available right now.
Destiny is creator, Bungie, first new video game title since the Halo series, which are exclusive to the Xbox. The game is coming for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but due to Sony having marketing rights to the game, some might not even realize that Destiny is multiplatform, not until Microsoft came up with a smart way to make it known.
When we look at Destiny, we see a game that has the potential to become the next big first person shooter behind or ahead of the Call of Duty franchise, but it would all boil down to whether or not the game is capable of keeping players interested for the next year after launch.
Interestingly enough, Destiny is on the verge of competing with the new Call of Duty this year, a title that goes by the name, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. We have reasons to believe that even if Destiny pulls off a successful launch where over 10 million players are tuned in on day one; that number could diminish by November, but only if the game is incapable of keeping gamer interested.
November is the month Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare scheduled to be released, and if it turns out to be worthy rebound from the failure that was Call of Duty: Ghost, Destiny could come across some troubles.
Nevertheless, we can't rule out the $500 million Activision has thrown into Destiny's development. Much of that is geared towards to advertisement, and if done right, Destiny could even surpass Grand Theft Auto 5 in the amount of copies sold on day one. It's not going to be an easy task to surpass GTA 5, but since the title is coming out on four consoles, the possibility of this happening is surely high.
With review embargo set to be dropped on September 8, the day before release, Destiny could be a hair away from becoming the most successful title of 2014. It would all depend on how reviewers view the game, and at the moment, we're not getting any form of hints that it won't be a success.
Since the beginning of the new console cycle, we have yet to see that one game to truly give gamers everything they've been looking for. WatchDogs tried, but it failed despite all the hype that surrounded it. Because of this, there are fears that Destiny might walk down a similar path.
It's an ambitious title, and it currently has one foot in hell and another beyond the heavens.
Destiny is set for release on September 9, 2014, for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 in North America.
