Add another name to the ever-evolving list of potential stars for the second season of "True Detective."
The second season of Nic Pizzolatto's acclaimed series will feature a new cast and a new setting, which is believed to revolve around the transporation system in contemporary California. Several names have been rumored to be in the running for the four (or is it three?) main stars of Season 2, including Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn and Elisabeth Moss.
Variety is reporting that another name has come up for what's expected to be the sole female lead role: Rachel McAdams. She's up for the same character as Moss and the fantastic Michelle Forbes, though McAdams would probably be the best-known name of the three. The character in question is said to be a "no-nonsense sheriff."
Casting is not the only department finalizing arrangements for the new season. According to Deadline, Justin Lin is in serious talks to direct probably the first two episodes of Season 2. Lin made a name for himself directing the fourth, fifth and sixth "Fast & the Furious" films, and is currently attached to helm the next Jason Bourne — er, Alex Cross — flick.
Cary Fukunaga famously directed all 8 episodes of "True Detective"'s first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Multiple directors will take the reigns in Season 2. Fukunaga's episodes struck a chord with audiences thanks largely to McConaughey's depressed, anti-natalist detective Rust Cohle, one of the most original characters to appear on TV in years. Can writer Pizzolatto strike lightning twice with another captivating character (or four)?
All eyes will be on "True Detective" to find out when it returns to HBO in mid-2015. The long-awaited official cast announcements are expected any day now.
