Ford announced that it has officially started accepting preorders for the 2017 Ford GT.
Customers can submit their applications by visiting FordGT.com, where they can expect to gain a personalized purchase experience.
"The purchase process for the Ford GT is as unique as our all-new supercar," says Henry Ford III, global marketing manager at Ford Performance. "We understand GT customers are strong ambassadors for Ford Motor Company and we look forward to providing them a service as distinct as the car itself."
The new Ford GT is the first supercar that the company launched since it stopped producing the GT back in 2007. It is also the first in the company's carmaking history to drop the thumping V-8 motor. The latest Ford GT runs on a twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine and uses carbon fiber extensively in order to reduce weight.
"This Ford GT is the ultimate expression of form following function," says Ford. "Its teardrop-shape body is the result of extensive work in the wind tunnel. Its carbon-fiber body and its projected 600-plus horsepower 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine are the ultimate expressions of technological innovation. The lightweight body is made of carbon fiber. Aluminum structures minimize the weight of the high-strength subframes."
Production of the GT is limited to only 500 units for the first two years. According to Ford, the unique application process is conducted for the purpose of weeding out those customers who the company deems as unable to become good "ambassadors" for the company and for the Fort GT supercar.
Lucky customers who get accepted can expect to be contacted by a Ford Concierge Service specialist, who will provide a tailored purchasing experience that will continue not only during the ordering and delivery process, but all throughout the ownership years.
Approved customers can also take advantage of the new Ford GT website where they will be allowed to build the Ford GT of their dreams. They will have the chance to use a configurator on the site where they will be presented with a breakdown of possible color mixes and combinations, wheels and other car-related materials, as well as interior theme details.
Currently, the Ford GT comes in eight exterior color options, including the highly popular Liquid Blue. There are also four interior themes that customers can choose from.
Pricing of the new Ford GT begins at $400,000, excluding other details such as extras, options and destination and delivery fees. Online ordering is scheduled to run from April 12 up to May 12.
