The Streamy Awards is almost here. This event honors content creators and showcases the best in online videos. On Sunday, September 9, the 4th annual Streamy Awards will bring together the biggest names in YouTube and online video for a party to recognize the cream of the crop in web video from the past year.
This awards show, called the Streamys for short, has grown considerably since its inception in 2009. It’s a little inaccurate to simply call the upcoming event the 4th “annual” show without mentioning that, after the event’s first two years, the show experienced a two year hiatus and underwent some restructuring. The show returned in 2013 in its current form. The upcoming show is produced by dick clark productions and Tubefilter, and sponsored by Coca-Cola.
Last year’s event was hosted by Chris Hardwick, host of “@midnight” on Comedy Central and leader of the Nerdist empire.
Web celebrities Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart are the hosts for the 4th annual Streamy Awards. Helbig’s fans know her best from her “it’sGrace” YouTube Channel, where she shares her life and her comedy with her nearly 1.9 million subscribers. She also has a comedy/talk show pilot for the E! network in the works. And, she just launched a new podcast titled “Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig,” which debuted at #1 on iTunes.
Hart, on the other hand, is a comedian known best for her “My Drunk Kitchen” show on her YouTube channel “MyHarto,” on which she makes things in the kitchen while imbibing. Hart is also a New York Times bestselling author with her parody self-help cookbook titled “My Drunk Kitchen - A Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Going With Your Gut.”
These two web video giants will lead the 2014 Streamys, which they both claim will “be filled with memorable moments, show-stopping performances, and plenty of surprises.”
“We’re overjoyed about hosting this year’s show together and spotlighting our talented peers who are ushering digital entertainment into the mainstream,” say the two hosts.
Entertainment at this year’s event will include:
- The vocal group Pentatonix, a Streamy Award music nominee and winners of season three of NBC’s “The Sing-Off.”
- Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox, a rotating group of musicians who create pop song covers in the styles of jazz, ragtime, and swing.
- Singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko.
- Starship, an American rock band.
Starship’s performance will reportedly feature guest appearances by YouTube personalities including Tiffany Alvord, Madilyn Bailey, Dave Days and Josh Golden.
Presenters this year include Darby Stanchfield, Heather MacDonald, Tara Reid, Lance Bass, Lark Voorhies, Chuy Bravo and Troye Sivan.
Some of the Streamys winners have already been announced. On Thursday, September 4, dick clark productions and Tubefilter revealed the “pre-live stream” winners during the Official Streamys Nominee Reception at the YouTube Space LA.

The event's live stream was a huge success last year. The 2013 Streamys pulled in more than 7 million live and on-demand views, created 2.1 million Twitter impressions and resulted in the hashtag #streamys becoming a worldwide trending topic on Twitter through the duration of the live stream. Web video is bigger than ever, so it won’t be too surprising if this year’s Streamys surpasses last year’s viewership.
The Streamys streams live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m. PT at www.streamys.org.
