The beta version of iOS 9.3.2 seems to have resolved a bug that has been haunting Apple's Game Center for the last four years.
To those who do not know, the Game Center for iOS is a mandatory component on numerous turn-based multiplayer App Store titles. These games require access to Apple's social gaming network in order for players to invite one another to multiplayer matches and start competing for high scores.
The bug was first spotted in iOS 8 and has since then crippled the Game Center app by launching it as a "white screen of death." Other flavors of the bug include freezing games to a white screen or causing the Settings app to break when Game Center's options are selected.
TouchArcade reports that, according to numerous users, the white death-screen has disappeared. The TA webpage is a sister site of MacRumors and has been running a thread about the issue that stretches to as much as 75 pages.
"Community members who [...] installed beta iOS system updates have reported that Game Center is once again working for them in the iOS 9.3.2 beta" says Eli Hodapp from TouchArcade.
Hodapp adds that he is "cautiously optimistic" about the definitive resolve of the bug, but a ray of hope undoubtedly exists.
Looking at the forum thread, it looks like the latest beta mobile OS from Apple fixed the problem for many who were afflicted. Apple rolled out the first beta of its upcoming iOS 9.3.2 update for public testing on April 7. One day prior, the company had opened the software variant to developers.
In a February patch, Apple closed a vulnerability loop which allowed hackers to maliciously use the Game Center app to gain access rights to the e-mail address of a user.
Regular users can volunteer to be part of Apple's beta testing program by simply signing up to participate through the beta testing website. Apple fans who tap into the beta version of both OS X and iOS do so on their own risk, as the OSs can be unstable and cause unexpected crashes for the devices.
Should you be one of Apple's beta testers, the iOS 9.3.2 update will land on your gadget via over-the-air. Just remember to install the proper certificate on your mobile device, though.
