Supergirl fans just got some exciting, unexpected news. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are expected to pitch major networks on a show featuring Superman's female counterpart, Supergirl.
The opportunity to produce a show based on Supergirl comes on the heels of recent successes of other DC properties such as the critical acclaim for "Arrow" and growing buzz for the new shows "The Flash" and "Gotham."
Greg Berlanti, co-creator and executive producer for "Arrow" and "The Flash," is partnering with Ali Adler to transition Supergirl to the small screen.
Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler previously worked together on "No Ordinary Family," a show about a family that gains superpowers after a plane crash in Brazil. Adler is expected to be the head writer for script of Supergirl's show and Berlanti will produce in partnership with Warner Bros. TV and his production company, Berlanti Productions.
The Supergirl project does not have a name yet although many options are rumored for consideration, including "Super" and "Girl."
Details are scarce. The Supergirl moniker has been taken on by six different women in the comic book universe, but none have been named as the lead for this show. The show is rumored to be a new interpretation of Supergirl, and no connections between shows or movies of other DC characters have been announced.
Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have four shows based on comic books airing this season, "Gotham" on Fox, "Arrow" and "The Flash" on CW, and "Constantine" on NBC.
