Whether you are saying hello, celebrating a victorious moment or having a serious bro moment, there is no gesture more appropriate than giving daps. There is nothing more satisfying than two fists coming together, bumping off each other as respect oozes out from the contact.
Let's face it, those who dap are not mature enough for formal handshakes, but way too cool for a high-five. We picture the perfect dapper to be someone still in college and who is always the life of the party. You know, that one guy that is always overly passionate when his favorite team scores.
Life would be just one brotastic never-ending frat party if we all just walked around with extra pep in our steps, smiles on our faces (maybe from being slightly buzzed) and gave daps to everyone who walked past us. Then again, if that really happened, we can just imagine that poor college boy eventually getting knocked out by some annoyed stranger.
Now, there is an app that allows users to find fellow dappers who are looking to share the love.
The app is called DapMe, and although it might sound a bit silly to some, it actually serves as a social network experiment to create connections "that were impossible to make before."
Okay, that might not make it sound better, but we can't help but feel that this has the potential to really pick up of some sort of social movement.
More than just walking around and finding a stranger to dap, perhaps DapMe could lead to new friendships, and dare we say, maybe even relationships — because there is no better story about how you two met to tell at parties than recalling how it all started with a dap.
Users download the app, sign in using their email and set up a password. They can find dappers based on their location, which will appear as a fist on their map.
Users will get notified when their friends are near so they can just stroll right up and dap, or find new friends to stick their first out to.
DapMe will probably have the most impact on college campuses, but if you start seeing random people looking up from their phones to give a dap, you now know why.
DapMe is available to download for free for Android. Sorry, iOS users, there is no version for you yet.
