One thing the new Gears of War 4 trailer proves is that war never changes. It also shows how war affects not just those who fight in it, but also those future generations who have to repeat the same battles.
The trailer, which aired on April 10 during the season two premiere of Fear The Walking Dead, brings that reality to life by showing the protagonist of the first three Gears of War games, Marcus Fenix, with his wife and son, all living out a happy existence during a time of peace.
But the new title in the franchise will bring Marcus' son JD to the front lines, to repeat the same previous struggles of his father.
Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the events of the third game and follows JD as he heeds the call of his father's legacy and takes up arms against a new enemy.
After the new video released, developer The Coalition took to Twitter to let fans know that more details about the game would arrive soon.
Early access Xbox One beta players will get a chance to try out Gears of War 4 multiplayer on April 18, with the beta going public on April 24. The developer promises that all beta players and Gears of War fans should find themselves happy with that experience.
"It feels like Gears and it plays like Gears, but now there is more nuance and sophistication into some of the things that are there," said The Coalition head Rod Fergusson to Entertainment Weekly. "I think it should be pretty exciting for people. I wanted to try some new modes, new maps, new weapons, all the usual fun stuff."
The Coalition also recently revealed the game's official release date, Oct. 11, as well as unveiled its cover art.
Gears of War 4 will feature three playable characters: JD (Liam McIntyre), Kait Diaz (Laura Bailey) and Delmont Walker (Eugene Byrd). Gameplay will take place over a 24-hour period and from the looks of the trailer, weather will play a large part in how players proceed.
