Shazam movie won't be part of DC's Cinematic Universe? Terrible move if true

Since it has been revealed that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be playing Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie, many have been wondering who will play the hero. Well, we don't know that, what we do know is that Shazam might not be set in the DC Cinematic Universe.

We've been long waiting for Dwayne Johnson to reveal that he's Black Adam, because let's face it, he is not made to play Shazam, mainly due to his age. In addition, we also wanted more information about the film, and New Line president Toby Emmerich did not disappoint, or did he?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emmerich appeared to have confirmed that New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. would be the studio to bring Shazam to the big screen

"It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself. It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies."

Now, this comment is quite interesting because it gives the impression that Shazam might not feature as part of the overall DC Cinematic Universe. We're not certain if Emmerich made a mistake here, because if not, then fanboys are sure to riot outside the offices of Warner Bros. and DC.

Then again, the quote could mean that Shazam (the character) might not end up being a member of the Justice League, at least not in the early stages.

Now, when it comes down to Black Adam, Emmerich says that the character is complex, and from his wording, it appears Black Adam might turn out to be the most important character in the film.

"Black Adam is a complex character," says Emmerich. "The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne's take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun."

At the moment, we're not fully certain when this film is scheduled to hit theaters. But we do have the feeling it could happen before 2020, probably 2017 or 2016, the same year as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

We must also add that Darren Lemke, the man behind the script for Jack the Giant Slayer, has been hired to pen the script for Shazam.
