A board game on the deeply challenging video game series is probably not what Dark Souls fans were expecting. However, it is true that the Dark Souls board game kicks off on Kickstarter this month.
Steamforged Games has confirmed this news on its website, saying it has collaborated with Bandai Namco Entertainment to develop the board game. This crowdfunding project promises to be an exciting experience for the Dark Souls universe.
"As Dark Souls fans, we could not be more excited to be given the honor of developing a board game that embraces everything that makes Dark Souls the deep, compelling game experience that it is," the company announced on its blog post.
Coincidentally this announcement comes hot on the heels of the tabletop card game on Dark Soul's sister franchise Bloodborne, created by board game maker Eric Lang with CoolMiniOrNot Games.
With the release of Dark Souls 3 just around the corner, Steamforged Games has been quick to launch the campaign on Kickstarter to get the next best thing started from their end.
This would be the board game maker's second crowdfunding project with Kickstarter. The team successfully launched their previous creation, Guild Ball, a medieval football table game that raised more than triple of its initial funding goal of £30,000 (about $42,000).
The Dark Souls board game details have not been released yet. For all we know, it may not have a storyline that ties directly to the Dark Souls video game series. Meanwhile, the recent "big news" tweet by Bandai Namco had left the fans anticipating for a teaser on the board game. However, they were sorely disappointed to see the launch of an online Dark Souls clothing line as the big revelation.
Still, this is certainly something to watch out for, now that the clothing line is out of the way. Any hints or teasers on social networking sites are now likely to lead to more information about the intriguing Dark Souls board game.
