We reported on April 7 that comedian Joel McHale is already in final casting talks to play as his Community co-star, Chevy Chase, in the Netflix biopic about his friend and National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney.
Now we have learned that the Netflix adaptation of the biography, A Futile and Stupid Gesture, written by Josh Karp, just signed on actor and writer Jon Daly to play the role of Bill Murray. Daly is best known for his work in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Zoolander 2 and as the voice of various characters in the animated comedy show Family Guy.
Daly is not the only new face in the David Wain directed production because two other actors have been cast to play two other titans of comedy. Seth Green, who is also on Family Guy, has been cast to play the legendary Christopher Guest and Rick Glassman will play Bill Murray's Ghostbusters teammate, Harold Ramis.
The three actors will be joining McHale, Matt Walsh who was cast to play publishing executive Matty Simmons, Thomas Lennon who was cast as Michael O'Donoghue — one of the National Lampoon's editors, Domnhall Gleeson is National Lampoon co-founder Henry Beard and Will Forte as the man, Doug Kenney, himself.
The production of A Futile and Stupid Gesture is looking into beginning the first stages of production before April ends so it only makes sense that it is really making that effort to complete its cast as soon as possible.
Dubbed "serious film about funny people," A Futile and Stupid Gesture focuses on the life and times of Doug Kenney from his days at the Harvard Lampoon to the founding of the National Lampoon and his eventual tragic death under mysterious circumstances in Hawaii.
Former editors of Harvard Lampoon, John Aboud and Michael Colton, wrote the script for the adaptation.
