The Bakersfield Condors must need a little help getting puffed up before a game, because on November 16, the minor league hockey team will don “puffy shirt” jerseys for a night.
These pirate-like outfits (But I don't wanna be a pirate!) are actually being worn to honor the 25th anniversary of the first “Seinfeld” episode, with the “puffy shirt” being a reference to the memorable fifth season episode of the same name.
The jerseys will feature “Seinfeld” character names, rather than the actual players’ names. A pool of 20 names have already been selected, which include:
Jerry, George; Kramer; Newman; Frank Costanza; Puddy, J. Peterman; Steinbrenner; Morty Seinfeld; Uncle Leo; Art Vandelay; Kenny Bania; Lloyd Braun; Jackie Chiles; Crazy Joe Davola; Mandelbaum; Bubble Boy; Keith Hernandez; Mickey Abbott; and, of course, Assman.
Five more names will make the cut, but those names will be decided by fans. The team is accepting suggestions via its social media accounts.
A draft will reportedly take place to determine which player wears which jersey.
The “puffy shirt” jerseys are also “sponsored” by fictional companies from the show, like Vandelay Industries, Pendant Publishing and Kramerica.
After the November 16 game, the jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the M.A.R.E. Riding Center in Bakersfield, which benefits people living with special needs and disabilities.
These specialty jerseys are part of an entire Seinfeld-themed game night event. A Kramer impersonator will be on hand. There will also be other “Seinfeld” themed fun like a Festivus pole give-away and an Elaine-style dance-off.
And, “Seinfeld” theme night aside, there are sure to be a few face painters at the game too. Because, after all, it’s a hockey game!
