It's not every day you run across a life-size AT-ST from Star Wars in the wild, but that's exactly what happened to Imgur user Mr. Kernish.
Kernish encountered this impressive feat of engineering a few months back and instantly took to the Internet to share his find. He posted images of the walker as seen in Return of the Jedi, and even recorded a video capturing the walker's movable cannons in motion alongside the creation's authentic Star Wars sound effects. Pew, pew!
That was a few months ago. Fast-forward to today, and Kernish has now been given a full tour of the vehicle by the AT-ST's creator. What Kernish discovered was that the interior of the vehicle is just as cool as the exterior. As detailed to the Verge, a ladder leads up into the cockpit of the AT-ST. Two solar panels above the entry hatch of the vehicle power the AT-ST's movable cannons. An Imperial propaganda poster inside the cockpit reads "Another Fine Product from the Kuat Drive Yards," which is a reference to the fictional Imperial vehicle construction yards on planet Kuat.
Various switches, circuits and other tech fill out the inside of the vehicle, including an emergency stop button adorned with a lightsaber. There is even a custom plate for the vehicle, identifying it as "Tempest Scout 2," also known as the AT-ST Chewbacca, which hijacks during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi.
The entire vehicle looks incredibly sturdy, and likely could survive an Ewok ambush were one to suddenly transpire. Let's be clear about this: there is no way the Ewoks could defeat a real AT-ST or a legion of Stormtroopers like they did in the movie. If teddy bears attacked this thing in the real world, they would probably die just trying to climb up the ladder (P.S. all the Ewoks are dead).
This AT-ST is seriously cool and one of the most impressive Star Wars fan creations we've ever seen, but the question is: why was this made? According to Kernish, the creator (who doesn't wish to be identified) simply crafted it because he could.
Ignoring the AT-ST, the rest of the backyard seen in the video could be mistaken for your average middle American neighborhood. There are houses, empty lots and a wooden playset. It all looks so incredibly average and mundane, except for the AT-ST. That kind of stands out.
