After last fall's storied delay, LG's Watch Urbane 2 is available now available. Verizon and AT&T both are peddling the call-capable smartwatch, but they've taken significantly different approaches in pricing the Watch Urbane 2.
Roughly before the smartwatch's release last fall, LG called back the Watch Urbane 2. The smartwatch was shelved in the eleventh hour because of problems "related to a new advanced component," a part that had previously never been incorporated in an LG wearable, LG explained.
Now, about four months later, those who'd like for a smartwatch to relieve their smartphones for periods of time can go to Verizon or AT&T to purchase a Watch Urbane 2. And it's for real this time.
For Verizon customers, new and current, the cost of the Watch Urbane 2 is $449 with a two-year agreement and $499 without a contract.
For AT&T customers, current and incoming, the Watch Urbane 2 is priced at $200 with a two-year contract. Those wanting to rock the smartwatch without committing to two years with AT&T can get the Watch Urbane 2 for $359 off-contract, along as they have or initiate cell service through the wireless carrier.
Explaining the huge discrepancies in the prices of the on- and off-contract prices of the smartwatch on AT&T and Verizon's networks, the access charge of the former is double that of the later. Verizon only charges $5 per month for accessing its network, $120 over 24 months, while AT&T has a $10 per month access charge that adds up to $240 over two years.
Regardless of which wireless carrier they side with, consumers will have the ability to clone their primary cell numbers to their Watch Urbane 2 smartwatches. Calls placed from the smartwatch will display the user's primary number.
While calling and fielding calls will offer wearers freedom from their phones, the Watch Urbane 2 won't stand in all day long for smartphones owned by power users. It will last up to two and half days on standby, but it can only handle up to 2 hours of talk time before needing some electric therapy to recharge its cells.
