HP officially debuts what it calls the "world's thinnest laptop," introducing the sleek and powerful Spectre 13.
With an incredibly thin aluminum chassis that's as thick as an AAA battery, measuring just 0.4 of an inch (10.4 mm), the new HP Spectre 13 might just be as thin as your smartphone.
HP's latest Spectre has more to offer than just a thin profile, however, as it comes packed with plenty of other impressive specs and features. Among the highlights, the ultra-thin laptop comes with a choice of Intel Core i5 or i7 processors (sixth generation, Skylake), full HD resolution and Bang & Olufsen speakers for superior audio quality.
Gorilla Glass will protect the display, while a hybrid battery promises to provide up to nine and a half hours of battery life on a single charge. The Spectre 13 also features three USB Type-C ports, and two of those also support Thunderbolt so users can connect the laptop to top-notch monitors.
"The HP Spectre is the thinnest notebook in the world, and unlike the majority of other super thin PCs on the market, this laptop doesn't compromise power or features," says Kevin Frost, general manager and vice president of consumer PCs at HP. "A beautiful Full HD edge-to-edge display, Intel Core i processors coupled with Bang & Olufsen sound and a sexy and thin design, HP amazing engineers set a new standard with the all new Spectre."
The Spectre 13 further comes with a carbon fiber bottom that not only allows for that impressive thinness, but also provides durability, while keeping the device lightweight at just 2.45 pounds.
The HP Spectre 13 starts at $1,170 (Core i5), but prices will vary depending on configuration. Users can get up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of SSD storage. The laptop will go up for preorder online on HP's website and BBY.com on April 25, while Best Buy will have it in-store from May 22 starting at $1,250.
Lastly, it's worth pointing out that the new Spectre laptop from HP comes as the company's answer to Apple's MacBook. Before the big unveiling, HP teased that its new ultra-thin laptop is poised to out-innovate Apple, ready to take over as the "innovator and the driver of innovation."
It remains to be seen how the HP Spectre 13 will fare in terms of sales and demand, but one thing's for sure: it's definitely among the sleekest laptops to date.
