The LG G5, which is now available through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and US Cellular, is a powerful device. Packing Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 with 4 GB of RAM, powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and being the first modular smartphone with its Friends accessories, there are very few weaknesses that can be found in the smartphone.
One such weakness is the default user interface on the LG G5, the UX 5.0. The launcher is polarizing to Android users, to say the least, as it does not have a proper app drawer, which is one of the most used features in the operating system.
There are several workarounds for users that do not want to use the LG G5's default launcher, such as using the EasyHome option, though that comes with huge fonts that are reserved for older users. The Google Play Store also offers different launcher options for download, but LG has provided users with a third choice.
In somewhat of an admission to the absence of the app drawer on the UX 5.0, LG has launched the LG Home 4.0, which can be downloaded from the company's own app store through the LG SmartWorld app.
After downloading LG Home 4.0, users will be treated to an Android launcher that looks more traditional, including the popular app drawer, a search function and an overflow menu for hiding and uninstalling apps.
LG Home 4.0 is available not just for the LG G5, as it is also being rolled out to the LG Stylus 2 and the LG K8.
As to whether the users of these devices should move on from the UX 5.0 and into the LG Home 4.0, that would still be their call. While the UX 5.0 does not have an app drawer, users should still try it out and see if the interface works for them. If not, then the LG Home 4.0 is an option.
