It seems audiences aren't the only ones who don't completely understand Lex Luthor's motivations in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Even LexCorp doesn't know what the heck is going on.
A new piece of viral marketing for the film and the greater DC movie universe has appeared online, in which Luthor's fictional corporation has issued a statement in regard to the events that transpire at the end of the film.
Spoilers for Batman v Superman below! You've been warned!
The "company" took to Instagram to clarify the situation, in the process posting an image of Luthor's new bald look.
"Due to unfortunate circumstances, LexCorp Industries will be temporarily suspending its global operations," a post on LexCorp Industries' Instagram reads. "When interviewed about his actions against a fallen alien, Lex Luthor responded with; 'Ding, ding, ding, ding. Are we entering the second round?'"
LexCorp then attempts to distance itself from its now imprisoned CEO.
"We do not understand Mr. Luthor's actions and LexCorp does not take responsibility for his actions. Thank you for being patient."
Now, it's unclear in the DC movieverse if LexCorp truly was ignorant of Luthor's plans and ambitions. It's likely that the vast majority was, but in all likelihood, a few, including Lex's assistant, knew what the villain was scheming.
That being said, it's still unclear what exactly Lex wanted to happen. It seems the madman was intent on destroying Superman in order to pave the way for yet another alien invasion, though why exactly Lex would want to do that is unclear. This recently-revealed deleted scene in which Lex "communes" with an alien presence using Mother Box technology doesn't provide any answers, either. You can watch that scene here.
