A new batch of Halo 5 content is coming in April, and that means players will have yet another reason to revisit the latest entry in the Halo franchise. Two new maps are being added to the game for free, alongside a number of new items, and now, we have more details on what exactly those maps will be like.
The first, Tyrant, is a smaller objective-based map ideally suited for games of Capture-the-Flag and Assault. The map will sport both a sniper rifle and a scattershot, so fans of both long-range and close-range combat will have a power weapon to fight over.
Halo 5's new Warzone map will be Skirmish at Darkstar, and it will be the smallest Warzone map to date. It will also be the first map to allow AI bosses to take control of human vehicles.
"Like in Halo 5: Guardians' campaign, Prometheans on the map are using stolen UNSC vehicles against players," 343 Industries studio head Josh Holmes tells Gamespot. "To balance this, we provide a number of paths that on-foot players can use to navigate between bases without getting run over by vehicles (AI or player controlled). We still want vehicles to be strong, but we made areas where players using vehicles will need to pay more attention and work together as a team to be successful."
With the map being the smallest Warzone map yet, players will be dropped straight into the action in a new intro sequence unlike that of other Warzone levels.
"For Skirmish at Darkstar we have a new intro experience where players are dropped into the middle of the action," Holmes says. "Both teams have a clear objective that creates confrontation from the beginning."
The above maps make up Halo 5's "Ghost of Meridian" update, and will be the fifth free update the game has received since its launch in October of 2015. You can read more about the lore behind each of the new maps here. Halo 5's latest (and limited time) gametype is Warzone Turbo, a mode that will allow players to use their strongest REQs from the start of a match, as well as much more frequently.
