It's another one for the books for Apple as the iPhone 6s craze lures another buyer into a trap.
A Chinese man found a record-breaking, low-priced deal online for the iPhone 6s. The man in question, Hou, only had to pay 1,500 yuans, or about $231, for a unit of the latest iPhone 6s released just last year.
The hefty price is causing most people to look for bargains on the Web, but a deal that's 70 percent off the asking price should make buyers wary. Hou, though, seemed to be a brave man and took his chances. The online store revealed to him that the phone was that cheap because it was smuggled, and that it was a good enough reason to purchase the unit.
Come delivery time, Hou received something less than what he bargained for at $231. It wasn't even an empty casing or an iPhone knockoff; the box contained nothing more than a pancake. The scammers he had bought from may have been a little too stingy and neglected to throw a bottle of syrup into the package.
For $231, Hou had probably bought the most expensive pancake he has ever had. Too bad that the pancake didn't sport a rose gold finish.
Just a few days ago, a woman was reportedly scammed into buying a $1,300 fake iPhone that sported a pear logo in place of the apple logo.
Scammers have been trolling the Web to prey on Apple fanatics in the hopes of cashing in on the craze, preying on unwary buyers to score bucks. The Apple frenzy may be helping them do so. People should be more cautious with deals found online that are just too good to be true.
Hou has reportedly contacted the online store he had bought from, after his unboxing, but has received no response.
