After a few years of inactivity, Alienware's classic gaming desktop has resurfaced, and it now comes with impressive specs.
Alienware, which is a division of Dell, has just announced its new Area 51 desktop gaming PC.
The custom desktop, which represents a significant upgrade for the gaming PC line, comes fitted with high-end components. The system features Intel's Haswell E-core i7 6 and 8-core processors. The CPU is paired with X99 chipset-based motherboards, which supports up to 31 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM. Each Area 51 gaming desktop also comes overclocked and liquid-cooled.
Alienware's new flagship system features an industrial design codenamed "Triad" that is meant to boost thermal efficiency. The Triad design features a unique triangular-shaped chassis. The design represents an improvement on the look of older Area 51 versions, which look like something out of a futuristic movie. While the triangular chassis manages to straddle the line between tasteful and science fiction, it actually serves a functional purpose. It improves the performance of components through a cooling process that allows more airflow. According to Alienware, the new configuration ensures the proper cooling of components by pulling in fresh air at the front and drawing warm air out of the chassis through the rear.
"We're excited to reveal the reimagined Alienware Area-51, a system that is the result of 18 years of innovation fueled by our love of gaming," Frank Azor, General Manager of Alienware, said in a press release. "We questioned everything and then began working on a system based on how we actually use our full-tower desktops rather than based on what was quick, easy or comfortable for us to design. The Area-51 features the all-new Triad chassis, designed from the ground up to deliver on exactly what gamers want, state-of-the-art performance, scalability and ease of use."
The Area 51 system would require some muscle to transport, since it weighs 45 pounds. The gaming desktop also features for up to three graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD.
Alienware is launching the Area 51 in tandem with the Dell Ultrasharp, a 34-inch curved monitor. The company will start shipping the Area 51 in October this year, and globally by Christmas.
