Superman is in for some big changes when DC Comics Rebirth arrives this summer, namely that he'll be married and even have a son.
Clark Kent will be married to none other than Lois Lane. While DC's New 52 reboot had Superman and Wonder Woman hooking up, it looks like this new initiative will have Clark return to his most famous love interest and settle down.
The "reboot" of sorts will see numerous new creative teams and relaunches of DC's biggest books, and that includes Superman. The story will first be told in Superman: Rebirth #1. Here's the official solicitation:
The world needs a Man of Steel, but can Superman protect the world while raising a super-son with his wife, Lois Lane?
IT BEGINS: Now it's Clark's turn to be Pa Kent and teach his son what it means to be super, but who is hunting Superman's son — and why?
That issue will then be followed by Superman #1 and move forward as an ongoing comic. Here's the description for that issue as well:
The Last Son of Krypton must decide whether to help his young son use his new and rapidly increasing abilities, or hide them from the world.
THE CREATORS: The team supreme that brought fans the adventures of Damian Wayne in "Batman and Robin" returns for the adventures of Superman and his offspring.
This new Superman tale will come from writer Peter J. Tomasi. Artists Doug Mahnke and Jaime Mendoza will bring Superman Rebirth #1 to life, with Patrick Gleason and Mick Gray tackling art duties for Superman #1. Both issues will go on sale in June, as Superman will be a bimonthly series going forward.
It's a big shape-up for the character, and one that should prove interesting for longtime fans. Tomasi has proven to have a knack for writing Batman's son, Damian, so he seems like a natural choice to lead a story revolving around Superman's offspring. It's still unclear exactly how the Rebirth mini-series comic will factor into all these big changes, but we should know more in May when the event kicks off with DC Universe: Rebirth #1.
Update: As pointed out by a reader, Superman currently does have a son and is married to Lois in the current Superman: Lois and Clark series. The upcoming Superman Rebirth and Superman comics will be a continuation of Superman:Lois & Clark series.
