State of Decay coming to Xbox One in Spring 2015: Co-op multiplayer or no buy

State of Decay is one of the best games available on the Xbox 360. It was surprise hit. And now, the developer, Undead Labs, is working on porting the game to the Xbox One in glorious 1080p. Killing zombies in 1080p should be a boon for gamers on the Xbox One. But will there be multiplayer co-op?

From what we understand, Undead Labs will port the Year One Survival Edition of State of Decay to the Xbox One, and it will be available in Spring 2015. The game is expected to have enhanced effect and animation that takes full advantage of the now generation hardware.

Major Nelson announced that the Xbox One version will come with all DLCs, which includes Breakdown and Lifeline. Furthermore, Undead Labs is planning to add new contents that are exclusive to the Xbox One. We have no idea what these new contents will entail, but for players who have played the Xbox 360 or PC versions already, only something significant would see them purchasing this game a second time around.

What about co-op multiplayer?

Nothing was said about this, but we hope Undead Labs and Microsoft realize that fans have been asking for co-op since day one. If Undead Labs should ever release State of Decay on the Xbox One without co-op, then the title would be ripped apart, especially since Sony's H1Z1 has multiplayer, and is actually free to play.

DayZ is another zombie game that is strong on co-op multiplayer, and PC gamers love it. Furthermore, that same game is scheduled for launch on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2015. So without co-op, there's likely no reason for gamers to choose State of Decay over this game.

We hope Undead Labs and Microsoft are listening to the fans, because the world of State of Decay is ripe for co-op. We're not certain if it is possible to add co-op to the whole campaign experience, but if it is possible, make it happen. However, if not, then there's no need for a port. Just turn all attentions to the sequel and make sure it is developed with co-op in mind from the ground up.
