Elders reacting to the Oculus Rift is probably something we've all wanted to see. Well, thanks to the Fine Brothers, it is now possible, and the whole thing did not disappoint. The elders who took the Oculus Rift for a spin were truly taken aback by the technology.
In the beginning, the elders were a bit hesitant to put on the virtual reality device, and who wouldn't be? Let's face it, the Oculus Rift look intimidating, as if it could control the mind of the person wearing it. In fact, one elder even queried if they were planning to take direct control of his mind.
Once the elders placed the Oculus Rift over their heads, it was complete comedy gold from there on end. They were absolutely enthralled by the virtual world, and how they could move their heads around to view things around them. One particular elder was extremely excited; it was such a joy to see him go as he tours the virtual world.
Another elder jokingly asked if George Clooney's house was nearby. Why she wanted to know that? We don't know, and guess what? We'd never like to know.
Interestingly enough, one elder wondered if naked women were going to jump out at him. An elder with a dirty mind? Nothing new here. He didn't get to see naked women, but he did get the chance to enjoy a virtual rollercoaster ride that they all seemed to enjoy, apart from the ones who began to feel nauseous.
A nauseous feeling is one of the downsides of virtual reality, and it definitely showed here. We expect Facebook and Oculus VR are hard at work in making sure the issues that could destroy this technology in the consumer space for good, are being ironed out.
At the end of the video, the elders were brought to haunted virtual house with Chucky inside along with a man who appeared to have hanged himself. Suffice to say, some of the elders did not find this pleasing at all, but overall they were good sports.
It's great to see how people, especially the elderly, react towards new technology. It is a mixture of both joy and concern, as some believe this technology could make the youths of today more distant from each other in the real world.
