Samsung's 2016 SUHD TVs Launching Globally With Quantum Dot Display And More Neat Tricks

Samsung announced the global launch of its latest 2016 lineup of SUHD TVs that will come in varying screen sizes ranging from 49 to 88 inches.

The company said it incorporated its 2016 SUHD TVs with Quantum dot display technology. According to Samsung, each of the displays' nanometer-sized particles will feature colors that are pure and precise. As a result, users can view media in a state-of-the-art picture quality that is bound to last for a long time.

"The 2016 SUHD TVs are next-generation devices, with the best color, brightness, usability and design," says Hyun Suk Kim, president of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business. "With these new sets, we will blaze a trail in the new age of Quantum dot displays."

One of the interesting features brought by Quantum dot technology is the increased brightness that it brings on the screen while promising relatively less energy consumption. Samsung's 2016 SUHD TVs will reportedly come equipped with High Dynamic Range technology that has a maximum brightness of up to 1,000 nits. As a result, images are displayed with increased details and a vivid color range that users can continue to view even during daytime, in bright light.

"Quantum dots are essentially incredibly tiny particles that can emit their own color when met with blue LED. SUHD TV uses these dots as a light source to produce the purest white. The purest white canvas for a more accurate and vivid color," says Samsung.

Compared to conventional TVs, Quantum dot technology on Samsung's SUHD TVs, when combined with 10-bit panels, delivers more color variations by 64 times higher. This could lead to producing up to 1 billion color shades that would allow users to "see the world as it should be seen."

With the superior picture quality found in Samsung's SUHD TVs, it's not surprising to know why the technology has sparked interest among huge film studios. One of them is the Hollywood film studio 20th Century Fox, which is said to be remastering its premium movie titles for TV with the use of the SUHD TVs of Samsung.

The Samsung 2016 SUHD TVs are launching initially in South Korea, Samsung's home country, before rolling out globally. Details such as pricing are yet to be announced.
