The Fast and the Furious franchise is one that's had surprisingly longevity. Few people would say that the first few films in the series have aged well, but more recent entries have been huge successes at the box office - clearly, ditching the whole street racing angle for globe-trotting action thrillers was the right choice.
Now, one fan is hoping to cash in on that success in the strangest way possible: an Indiegogo campaign for Fast Nein has just launched, and is currently asking for $100 million USD in order to get the film made. If you were wondering - no, Fast 8 hasn't already been released, and no, Fast Nein isn't a typo. The film's title is spelled as such because the movie's plot centers around everyone's favorite drivers as they travel back in time to race against Adolf Hitler.
That sounds like something out of an old cartoon, but the campaign is seemingly legitimate - though it probably won't be much longer before Indiegogo or Universal Pictures has something to say about it.
Fast Nein definitely sounds like some sort of ridiculously-detailed prank, and it almost certainly is - but that doesn't make campaign creator Jordan VanDina's work any less impressive. If you ignore the actual content of the project, the fact that VanDina's already written and posted a 71-page script for everyone to read is pretty remarkable...even if it does feature moments like Hitler's father abandoning his family for a Jewish woman and the time machine from Back to the Future appearing out of nowhere.
So far, the campaign has raised $277 of its $100 million goal, but with just two months to fund the entire project, Fast Nein probably won't make it - and that's if Universal Pictures doesn't start slamming VanDina's inbox with cease and desist letters. It's somewhat surprising that Indiegogo itself hasn't taken the campaign down yet, but that could just be a matter of time.
If you really feel the need to help fund a movie that's guaranteed to go absolutely nowhere, you can donate to Fast Nein over at its official Indiegogo page. Otherwise, the film's script is totally worth taking a look at, even if it does feel like reading through someone's fever dream.
The next official film in the series, Fast 8, is due to debut in 2017.
