In an interview with Tech Times last week, former WWE announcer turned-ESPN anchor Jonathan Coachman promised to get Mick Foley on SportsCenter for his "Legends of WrestleMania Month."
Well, Coach made good on that promise, getting the Hardcore Legend and the man behind iconic personas such as Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love to appear with him live on SportsCenter on Tuesday night for an interview following his Off the Top Rope segment.
First, Coach looked back at some of Foley's most memorable WrestleMania moments, including his debut as Mankind in teaming with Vader to take on Owen Hart and the British Bulldog at WrestleMania 13 back in 1997, facing the Rock, Triple H and the Big Show for the WWE World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 16 three years later and having Edge spear him through a flaming table at WrestleMania 22 in 2006. Good lord, does that resonate as still being insane, or what?
After that, it was Mrs. Foley's baby boy's turn to rattle off some of his own favorites — something he was more than happy to do with Coachman live on SportsCenter. For starters, he said, as a fan, the iconic "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat match at WrestleMania III in 1987 was his favorite. How could you go wrong with that?
As a superstar, though, Foley's favorite moment was the WrestleMania 13 match pitting Stone Cold Steve Austin against Bret "the Hitman" Hart.
Having the Hardcore Legend live and direct on SportsCenter, Coachman couldn't let the opportunity to ask Foley about being speared through a flaming table by Edge slide. Fittingly, Foley responded that he and Edge were hellbent on creating a WrestleMania moment to last a lifetime, and they certainly accomplished that goal with a sequence so vivid that it's permanently etched in the minds of WWE Universe members everywhere.
About the upcoming Shane-O-Mac vs. Undertaker Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 32 on April 3, Foley sat back and said that the extreme-style match is almost tailor-made for two guys who are willing to do everything ... especially Shane.
Between Mankind being thrown off the Hell in a Cell by the Undertaker, chokeslammed through it and dropped onto tacks within it ... Shane more than has his work cut out for him to deliver such a moment.
